So another drizzly day for cricket on Saturday and the MUFs 1s were set to take on Marchmont. Having lost the toss, Marchmont chose to bat. The bowling and fielding getting off to a great start with T Wheeler and JP Cruz Rocha taking 2 early wickets and leaving Marchmont on 70 odd for 2 at drinks. Enter M Loeffen, the Marchmont enforcer, who, with a little/a lot of help from an increasingly poor fielding display, started to dispatch all bowlers to various corners of the park, scoring easily and without even looking like going out (he didnt). Losing just two more wickets over the 50 overs and with S Peachy and M Loeffen (135 n.o) scoring a majority of the runs, MDAFs were set an imposing target of 230 for the win.
The reply got off to a good start with L Hayes and A Jaffery scoring runs at 4 an over until a mix up ended Hayes' innings. A Mahapatra in a first drop and was not around too long, then Captain Chaos came in and led from the front with a blasting 60 something (no scorebook to hand), giving the MUFs a fairly good run chase. P Hubbard steadied the ship by batting through many overs and supporting the other batsmen who came and went (yours truely didnt trouble the scorers, or the timekeepers), with few batsmen scoring any runs, the match result was never in doubt. A comfortable win to Marchmont, knocking back the MDAFs 1s.
On another note... best of luck for the next 4 - 5 weeks gentlemen. I am away on Wednesday for a 1 month (hopefully) stint in Christchurch to get a new visa.
Cheers,
Sam

A day where we looked more like drenched birds or rather ducklings( well apart from Don, his age disqualifies him from being one) than cricketers, for we were playing cricket in weather which was suitable well only for ducklings/ducks.
Mufs 4s were home against Kirk Brae 2s, first time on arti this season. With Don getting his toss winning charms back and deciding( I was surprised) to field first for hefelt he had packed his team with bowlers, 7 of us bowled leaving Mouris, Don,Chris R and Lindsay who couldnt/didnt or simply needed not to bowl. Kirk Brae started slowly but steadily with M Raja responsible for scoring and their captain D Jones holding the fort from the other end, the pair made Don realise it was a bad decision(remember Ricky Ponting Ashes 2009 vs england at headingly, sydney 2010 and headinly 2010 againstPakistan) to field first, outfield was fast and bowl was coming onto the bat very well. The pair put on 96 for the first wicket with M Raja scoring a fine 50+.. But, introduction of Christopher Brown meant first time this season he was bowling when it was 0 down and not 9 down and soon he made it 1 down with a perfect yorker to D Jones and this started a collapse with Nadeem taking 3, Vinod 4, Sash 1 and a fine sprinting runout or running out( whatever it was) by Brad Mowatt, where in he fielding at midwicket, batsman plays towards him and then both batsman( bat in hand ) and brad( ball in hand)run towards the non strikers end to see who reaches first, but, ultimately Brad out runs the batsman in being the first to reach towards the stumps and dislodging them, this finsihing the Kirk Brae at respectable 127..A good come back by bowlers.
Our Chase started well with Mouris and Nadeem putting 25 for the first wicket before Nadeem outdone by an excellent piece of bowling by Sohail Ashraf which pitched miles outside off stump but swinged in to kiss the middle stump. This brought Chris R onto field and him and myself kept the run rate above 5 untill the arrival of rain. At this stage we were 59/1 off 11 overs, comfortably placed and victory looked easy and ours. The rain was so heavy that we were forced to come off despite our reservations..the 2s playing next door also decided to follow us, as Ian Shiels added that "when we saw 4s coming off, we had to come off as a mark of respect". with rain not going away and 2s deciding to cancel their game cause of a wet pitch the onus was on me and chris, either to go in and play in the soggy conditions or cancel the game, but we decided to go out and play. The pitch now was playing tricks with ball keeping low and outfield too wet to carry the ball . Scoring looked difficult and a moment of madness saw Chris R and myself stranded on the same side of the pitch, when Kirk Brae wicketkeeper failed to collect the ball properly and Chris R deciding to sacrifice his wicket. This started a collapse of ours, with Brad, Lindsay, Mohit falling within the space of 10 balls and scoring just 2 runs in between themselves. But Myself and Sash Muralidharan, on his batting debut took score past 90 but one more trick by the pitch, ball kept low(again) and I, deciding to stay back, and ball deciding to kiss the stumps and not my bat, bowled by Arun Uttaparri on 47. Captain Don cutting the first ball over the backward point and gully to get his first 4 of this season but was soon on his way back, one more wicket to Arun, bowled on 4, but 8 boundaries came in next 2 overs 4 to Sash( who played an excellent knock, hitting a vital 17 runs which included 4 fours) , 2 to vinod, 1 to Gurjeet and 1 via a bye took us home ..
A hard fought victory thanks to our tailenders..
Mouris B- bowled 47 Nadeem A- bowled 5 Chris R runout 13 Brad M bowled 0 Mohit bowled 1 Lindsay T bowled 1 Sash M not out 17 Don W bowled 4 Vinod V Bowled 13 Gurjeet S not out 4

Another entertaining report by Super Mo.
Regarding stoppage for rain.... i think the sentiment was more down the lines of "if even those crazy fools in the Fours are coming off then......"
On the other side of the Park against Haddington, we (and particularly me) found scoring difficult on a oh-so-slow sticky dog of a pitch, especially after last week's luxurious conditions at Portgower Place. Even so, 129 all out (with criminally 8 overs left) was undercooked (150+ was probably par). Top scorer was Phil Hawkins with 22 - outpacing his opening partner Mr Belly - also 22. Jasir hit a breezy 19 and Adeel also 15 but too many wickets given away with injudicious shot selection in the face of accurate bowling from Haddington, Alan Cruickshank claiming 3 wickets. After tea, Haddington also found the going tough against tight bowling by Mahesh and Taz, with Mahesh Taseem (!!) claiming an early wicket. But with our visitors on 12-1 off about 9 overs the rain got steadier and heavier and any break from the downpour was only temporary. With surface water on the wicket the abandonment was inevitable. And so after diligently doing all the dishes etc, the remaining Twos watched the drama unfold over on the other side of a soggy Roseburn Park. Well done the 4s... hard luck 1s and 3s.

Don't change your words Shielsy.. Maybe some rain covers can save us some games..we should seriously think of buying them..
P.S Well Taseen is bugging me claiming he took the only wicket of Haddington innings..thats why this post
