Unfortunately, in my haste to organise the next 3 weeks of cup matches I forgot to mention this one. It was played last night. MDAFs were set to play a Marchmont side that had recently fallen victim to some teams the MDAFs 1s had beaten comfortably, and Captain A Mohammad felt confident of s strong side being able tp ush through to the second round of what would be our 3rd cup competition of the season.
With rain delays and wet weather, along with what I now consider average weather, which is freezing, MUFs were put into bat and with a good start for Jaffery and Hayes, the start looked promising... it didnt last. Hayes scoring a respectable 20 then losing steady wickets withou very many runs, MUFs were 50 odd for 6 at one point. Enter Reyaz, with a composed yet fast scoring T20 innings putting on 36 not out and the tail scoring a few runs to take us through to 120/9 off the allotted 20.
After a slowish start to the reply, the openeing bats for Marchmonet steadily poured on some runs and got through to 60 ish without loss... the game slowly fading from the grips of the MUFs. A 50 from one of the openers, some good 1st and 2nd drop batting saw Marchmont through with 6 wickets and 2 overs to spare.
Sorry to be vague - I dont have the book, but wickets taken from Melvin, Adnan and Tom?
Stats as follows from the other captain:
MDAFS 120-9 (20 overs) A Reyaz 36* L Hayes 20, N Granger 3-28, M Ahmed 2-11, W Collier 2-12
MCC 121-3 (17.4 overs) W Collier 57, S Macgregor 35
Captain from Marchmont thanks us lads for the game and explained they enjoy playing us as it is always good competition and the games are played in good spirits... great feedback for the club lads, keep it up.
Cheers,
Sam
