On what turned out to be one of the most windy games I have ever seen, MDAFs took on the mighty Standard Life in the 2nd round of the Parks trophy: here is how it went down.
Captain Chaos winning the toss and decided... quite rightly, to bat first on what was an excellent batting wicket (Newfield). L Hayes and A Akram opening up and with the first over going for 14, 8 wides and a big 6 from Hayes, it was all go from there!! Until the next over when Akram was caught LBW by M Gandhe. Enter A Jaffery who put on 3 in while L Hayes who was in fine form, smashed the ball to all ends of the park. Jaffery out LBW by Gandhe brings M Akerkar to the crease. Akerkar and L Hayes continued to push the bowlers resolve as the run rate was cruising at just over 7.5 an over for the first 10. Boundaries a plenty, quick singles, great hitting and exciting T20 cricket provided us on the sidelines with alot of entertainment, L Hayes finally being undone LBW after amassing 90 runs 17 overs... solid effort that. A Mohammad to the crease who scored a quick fire 16, Akerkar ending on 39 N.O, bringing the total to a massive 177 for 3 off 20 overs.
After a quick break, out come the teams for another go, this time it was the MDAFs bowlers getting some 'tap' on a roadlike pitch. A Akram, however got off to a great start, taking a wicket early in his spell. This bought R. Thornton to the crease who had his sights set on making MDAFs massive total look small. Sending balls to all ends of the ground, whilst the other batters stood at the other end and watched, Thornton was the person who could take the game away from the MUFs and very nearly did. Some tight bowling from A Akram, T Wheeler and Venkatesh kept the other batters guessing, all taking a wicket a piece. But, the over that turned the game for MUFS was B Nussums final over of his spell. Firstly taking S. Gul, bowling him middle stump, then K. Blake Caught... Nussum toppled Thornton with an accurate good length ball, removing the danger man and all but taking victory from the clutches of SL. That over went for 3 runs and 3 wickets... an outstanding display of bowling.
After the fall of Thornton, the runs trickled, but SL never looked like regaining the momentum, eventually getting to the 20th over for just 142 for 6.
Good game, played in good spirits, L Hayes and B Nussum the pick of the bunch on the night.
Batting:
L Hayes 90 A Akram 0 A Jaffery 3 M Akerkar 39 n.o A Mohammad 16 n.o
Bowling:
B Nussum 4-0-21-3 A Akram 4-0-21-1 T Wheeler 4-0-16-1 A Mohammad 4-0-41-1 M Akerkar 1-0-24-0 (Sorry Magi) A Venkatesh 2-0-7-0 M Gaddam 1-0-10-0
Bring on the next round!
