On yet another drab, windy and less cold day MDAFs 1st XI took the field to face off 'bottom-of-the-table' team Largo 1st XI. Wanting to capitalise on the fact that the weather forecast was for rain, Captain Chaos sent the MUFs into bowl (thats gotta be a first?!) to try and get a quick result. What actuially happened was that Largo batted their allotted 50 and posted a decent score on a belter of a wicket (well, compared to previous soggy games anyways - thanks Hubs!). The opening Largo pari of M. Speering and A. Warrender getting Largo off to a 63 run partnership for the first wicket. Few boundaries were scored with the Largo batters taking advantage of some sloppy ground ground fielding. T. Wheeler making the first break through in taking Warrender (22), continuing his run of form for the 1s. G Robinson (C) out next and settled in nicely, with Speering for a few overs before M. Akerkar took the scalp of the opener for 38 runs. G Robinson and G. Kinnear then proved to be difficult in getting out, and even though only 3 boundaries were scored between them, they amassed 66 for their partnership, with M. Akerkar the one to break the partnership in Bowling G. Robinson for a respectable 43. With 8 overs to go, some tight bowling and better fielding, and 3 more wickets (2 run outs and A Deshmukh taking a good catch of A Akrams bowling) Largo got to their 50 overs at 183 for 7.
A Akram: 10-1-28-1 A Mohammad: 10-1-36-1 L Hayes: 3-1-5-0 B Nussum: 7-0-30-0 T Wheeler: 10-0-35-1 M Akerkar: 10-1-42-2
After a brief tea, MUFs openers L Hayes and P Hubbard to guard and got the team off to a good start, with Hubbard on the attck from the get go (a couple of brilloiant 4s) before Hubbard (10) left a ball outside off, only to see if jag back in towards him and take the top of off stump. Enter A Akram tp artner the 'inform' L Hayes. These two looked in great nick with the good balls being slotted away defensively and the bad balls being pounded to the boundary with some very nice shots. A Akram making his 53 in very quick time. This is the type of start the 1s needed with the second partnership taking the total to 107 inside 23 overs. Akram was the first to fall, LBW to N Ali. Enter the skipper, who, true to form, hit a couple of boundaries to lift the run rate straight after a wicket, only to fall 3 overs later to a skied attempt at a smash to the boundary - A Mohammad out for 8. At 125 for 3 in 28 overs, there was little to do but stay in and push for quick runs, which is what M Akerkar and L Hayes did for the next 8 overs, M Akerkar falling for a good 29 bowled by J Kermath. With 10 runs needed, L Hayes on 58 and holding his own, A Deshmukh took no time in smashing 2 fours and a double to seal the win for the MUFs. An outstanding batting display by L Hayes and Akram, a belter of a wicket and as usual good banter on the sidelines! Post match saw most of us head across to the artifical where the 2s were attempting to chase a mammoth total, what ensued? Up to Andy to relay that... tune in next week for more MUFs 1s results.
L Hayes: 58 N.O P Hubbard: 10 A Akram: 53 A Mohammad: 8 M Akerkar: 29 A Deshmukh: 10 N.O
Yours truely.

MUFs 4s travelled to Campbell Park to face Holy Cross 3s. Captain el presidente Don Wilkie won the toss yet again( I havent seen him losing any toss yet, seems his coin has same faces) and off to bat we were, in a weather which had everything, a bit of sunshine, a strong wind, intermittent showers, MUFs lost Mouris in the 2nd over for 11 which brought Chris on to crease to partner NIck, Chris started slowly though but once his eyes set in, piled on runs and hitting 4s after 4s scoring his first 50 for club and eventually falling for 54, while Nick was going good and steady at the other end, bringing Allan patterson to the crease, and started some fantastic running between the wickets, but some good spin/slow bowling got the better off Allan falling for 7, and in came Mufs Junior Ben Faloconer to the middle, he started well with some sweet hitting only to fall to a miscalculated 2nd run , runout after well made 8..This brought Brad onto the field, and together with Nick took us past 200, Nick scoring a well made and sensible 68 which started slowly but ended with almost 11 hits to the fence and falling in the last over stumped...Last ball of our innings saw Brad getting out making quickfire 38 including a big 6, the second of our innings and the final score stood at 214/6
Mouris B caught out 11 Nick Hill Stumped 68 Chris Richardson caught 54 Allan Patterson caught 7 Ben Falconer runout 8 Brad Mowatt Caught 38 Nadeem Anjum Not out 3
Holy Cross Chase started well with their openers taking advantage of some wayward bowling and dispatching few balls to the fence but Captain Don made some good fielding changes which started a collapse, Touqeer Khan after going wickless but economical in his first 3 overs compensated it with once again running through the top order getting 4 wickets (his second 4 for in 3 games), he would have got a 5 had there been a slip who was away to un-tight the bladder which saw us only having 10 guys on the field in that particular over ..Some good bowling by Allan, Amir, Brad and nadeem and some superb fielidng display by MUFs 4s stopped tually Holy cross at 106 and making it 4 out of 4 easy wins for Mufs 4s, Allan with 2, Brad with 2 and Amir with 1 wicket were other major contributors with the ball.. (bowling figures not available, i remember only touqeer and alan's figures) Touqeer khan 8-3-16-4 Allan Patterson 7-0-33-2

With all 3 other teams gaining victory on Saturday, the pressure qwas on the 3's to step up and secure the second clean sweep of the season. On a very windy and initially wet day at roseburn we managed to play a full game. On losing the toss we were sent into bat by Boroughmuir on a very good Roseburn wicket (courtesy of OMH). Opening up the batting was Dazza and Westy, who proceded to take to some lacklaster bowling and set up an excellent platform for the innings. They put on 60 runs until Dazza fell and then on 72 Westy was caught on the boundary. Some solid run acumulation from Ashiq and Pav saw us to 93 until a mini collapse saw us at 120 for 6 and in danger of not batting our full compliment of overs. However a very good partnership between Raja and Finaly of 50 runs with some exceptional shots from young Finlay saw us get to 174 before some late hitting from Dan saw us reach 197 for 9 from our 45 overs.
Some excellent tight bowling from Paul and Finlay as well as test match like batting from Boroughmuir meant that the opposition were 11 for 1 off 12 overs that included 4 maidens. Apart from some solid batting from I Mohammed, there was little application or willingness to chase our total. And after their number three batsmen retired hurt for 11 runs off 25 overs, the wickets began to tumble thanks to some superb bowling from the second spell of Finlay and equally outstanding fielding by young Ben who took two excellent catches and an utterly superb direct hit run out from cover, as well as 3 wickets to Raja. Lindsay 'Terminator' Towns and Ashiq wrapped things up to ensure a comfortable 93 run win for the MUF 3rds.
All and all a far improved performance from last week and one that ensure the clean sweep of MUFS victorys for the weekend. Congrats to the other three teams and lets keep it going.
UP THE MUFS!!!!
