On a cold and blustery Sunday, MDAFs were set the task of getting through the first round of the Presidents Trophy against a Heriots team depleted of a few key players, one too hungover to play, one person ineligable because he played too many National League games and another turning up 10 overs into the MDAFS batting innings.
MDAFS went into Bat with L Hayes and A Akram starting. Hayes did not trouble the scorers however, being caught behind for a duck. K Trahms falling for a duck. With some controlled hitting, great big hitting and some good looking shots Akram and A Deshmukh set about the bolwers maintaining a 5 per over run rate. Deshmukh fell to a brilliant peice of fielding, which brought about the presence of M Akerkar to steadily push for singles and probe the infield, while Akram hammered the attack from the other end, eventually holing out for a well desrved 69 (no rude jokes here please!!!). Captain Chaos A Mohammad came out to join Akerkar, and in true Asif fashion, smashed a quick fire 30 something (losing a ball in the process). A few runs from the lower/middle order and a few quick wickets saw MDAFs at 187 for 9 after 35, on a wicket that should be a 220 in 40 overs. T Wheeler an D Wheeler (nee Frear) made the tail wag taking the total to 217 all out on the last ball. Some fina attacking shots from both players - a great effort.
After a great tea, MDAFS opening bowlers A Akram and the skipper, restricted the run rate for the first couple of overs. Willy the started what would be his 4th and most productive lap of the ground, bringing a wicket to Akram, and another in quick succession. Some tight bowling from A Scott, M Akerkar, T Wheeler, B Nssum and D Wheeler (nee Frear) choked the Heriots side out of the game with all bowlers picking up one or two wickets for few runs. Heriots eventually collapsed at 101. A sound victory, onward an upward!!!
