Gentle reminder..... Can all captains (or deputy) please inform opposition of details for our home games especially if the game is to be played on an artificial wicket so the opposition can come with the appropriate footwear. Thanks.... Elsec

Congrats Guys..Job well done:)
Mufs 4s travelled to Double Hedges to take on Kirk Brae 2s. The weather was soggy during the game but pretty decent at the start and the Mufs 4s Captain, Don Wilkie called it right and then decided to bat first. The Openers Mouris and Graham Watson came out, with vengeance in mind, for last year at the same venue after scoring 200 odd runs, 4s still lost the match. Mouris greeted A Rajah's first ball with a Straight 6 over his head but was greeted back by a bouncer hiting him on his chin from The other Kirk Brae opening bowler Arun, and then started a blitzkrieg innings to take Mufs to 45 in first four overs, and then fell to well executed sledging(swearing included) plan of the opposition, scoring 37 from 16 balls, this brought Chris Richardson to the wickets, run rate slowed and caused the dismissal of Graham(wild slog) and Chris, but Saad bin Tahir(44) and Brendon Mowatt(45) controlled the innings with some fine display of shots and good running between the wickets and then some fantastic late hitting from Carl Trahms(46 n.o) who was playing after a hiatus of 4 odd years lifted the score to 229/9.
The Kirk Brae Chase began badly with New comer Touqeer Khan running through their Top order and with the help of some outstanding fielding and catching from fielders taking 4 wickets on debut , and then Brad Mowatt and Mouris(bowling medium fast first time for Mufs 4s), Chris R cleaned the remaining wickets, with Brad getting 2 and Mouris clean bowling 3 Kirk Brae batsmen on 3 yorkers, and the remaining solitary wicket going to C Richardson thanks to a sensational catch by an Injured Saj Pervez fielding at the deep midwicket boundary, ending up Kirk Brae for a paltry 106...Job well done and a sweet revenge taken...

After fretting all week about the pending weather and the thought of losing another game to poor weather, it was good to wake up on Saturday morning to see a sunny (albiet damp grounded) day. MUFS 1st XI were set to play Boroughmuir 1st XI with MUFS batting first after what can only assume was a misunderstanding at the toss. P Hubbard being bamboozled by S Smith (runs in at a million mph and bowls less than 50 mph) caught at point. M Akerkar not doing too much with the bat being caught for 2 at point to the same bowler and fieldsman. Captain Chaos A Mohammad and L Hayes steadied the ship and put on a 67 run partnership, Mohammad being the next to fall, caught at square leg. Fergusson, Gaddam, Deshmukh and Akram and Hayes (37) all falling within 20 runs of each other, putting the MUFS in a tricky stat at 104 for 8. Enter A Venkatesh and K Ashraf. Putting on a 59 run partnership. Some controlled hitting, lots of running and some out and out slogging made the tail wag before Venkatesh was bowled by M Sachdeva. M Clench finished off the tail, with MUFS being bowled out in the 45th over for 189.
With the drizzle starting to appear and the temparature dropping steadily, the race was now on to bowl 30 overs at the Boroughmuir side to get ourselves a result! M Clench and A Akram opened up and A Akram was the first to strike with the scalp of M Sachdeva, bowled off stump. M Clench was the next to take a wicket, but credit must go to M Gaddam who took what one could only describe as an 'ABSOLUTE SCREAMER' of a catch at point (diving 2 meters to his right and scooping the ball up one handed about a foot from the ground). Clench and Akram bowling tight opening spells to restrict Boroughmuir to less than 30 off the opening 10 overs. A Mohammad and M Akerkar were bought on as the next bowling pair with M Akerkar holding one end and restricting runs (5 - 1 - 11 - 0) and A Mohammad smashing through the middle order with some (at times wideish) but pressure bowling taking 5 scalps (10 - 0 - 31 - 5). Having dealt with rain showers all day, miserable fielding conditions and slippery underfoot conditions MUFS had Bouroughmuir on the ropes at 79 for 7 before drinks! K Ashraf complimenting his batting innings with some tight bowling (5 - 1 - 11 - 00). M Clench and A Akram were bought back into the attack to 'tidy up' the end, which they did, both taking the final wickets of the day (37 overs through).
A poor batting performance with a few exceptions, but some excellent bowling keeping us in the hunt and eventually coming away 94 runs better than the opposition!
UP the MUFS!!!
Cheers,
Sam

After much speculation about the weather and if we would get a game, the sun was shineing on roseburn (for a while), and despite the Rainman/Anand curse we managed to get our game against Holy Cross 2nd XI underway. Winning the toss we decided to have a bowl in overcast conditions, opening up with debutants Mahesh Sunkari and Sam Chapman, they both bowled excellent opening spells bowling nice tight lines and excellent lengths. Mahesh picked up two important wickets with excellent swing and seam movement, Sam also picked up a much deserved wicket. Bharat and Finlay then came on and also bowled some excellent overs that ensured the pressure was constantly on. Finlay bowled with great accuracy and snared the top scorer thanks to a flying mass of human in slip, namely Dazza, who managed to hold a good catch. Bharat bowled 9 straight overs picking up two wickets in an excellent spell. Some great tight fielding ensured two wickets were taken via run outs. Dan then came in to finish of the innings with 2 wickets, and also putting his hand up for a early MUFTA by proceeding to bowl the batsman off a no ball by overstepping from his 2 step walk up delivery stride.
All and all a great fielding display that saw Holy Cross bowled out for 110.
Enter Dazza and Russell....
Short story - No one else needed to bat. Dazza and Russell knocked off the runs inside 21 overs. Sensible batting from Russell and Holy Cross's inability to take any of the 5/6 chances Dazza offered ensured an excellent 10 wicket win for the MDAFS 3rd's.
More of the same next week lads, and congratulations to all the other victorious teams this week
UP THE MUFS!
Dan
