Murrayfield DAFS U-13s recorded their second win in a week and first against male opposition by defeating Grange u-13 last night. ;D
Our lads recorded our highest evening score of 92 ;D with new recruit Danny Murphy reaching the 25 retiral mark and Ben Falconer 19. The innings started off with a flying 30 run openning partnership with Fin Ross scoring 11 before being run out. Ben played one of his best innings in u-13 cricket and added to another excellent display of keeping certainly impressed the watching Eastern Academy scout. Lewis Mullholland playing his first hardball match for the club transfeered his kwik cicket skills to the hard ball arena with a lovely 4 before being stumped for 6. J. Crawley was probably the pick of the Grange bowlers returning figures of 1 wkt for no runs!
And so to bowling... Fin set the standard with a pacey opening salvo and the accuracy of left armer Ross Kneebone reaped the reward clean-bowling Dempster for 2. Vignesh then bowled the Grange no 3 and Lewis got his first wicket removing the other opener Ritchie. Grange 11-3!! Mullins and Hanc0ck put on a 34 run 4th wicket partnershipbut couldnt repair the run rateand following their retirements Grange's cause was undone by 3 run outs albeit from excellent fielding from the Murrayfield lads. And so to the last over 22 needed Fin to bowl! No worries but a succession of noballs (betting scandal or the darkness disguising the crease lines?) had the Murrayfield contingent sitting on the edge of their seats..... but thankfully Fin regained his composure and dotted the last 2 balls for a historic victory. mentions should also go to 8-year old debutant Hector Skipworth who showed no nerves and planted 12 balls "on the spot" having not even completed a hardball training session before...watch this space!
A big thank you to Paul Hubbard for an excellent wicket and a completely handmown outfield (helped by Anand and elsec) Thanks guys.
The previous eveing saw a Murrayfield u10 side travel to Livingston and despite the slow journey on the gridlocked West Lothian roads saw the lads complete a 2 match to zero victory.
Notable performances were from Hector Skipworth with 3 wickets in one over, Lewis Mullholland with 38 runs from one 2-over innings, Nairn Ross, Vignesh and debutant Archie. Thanks also to the parents for their perseverance in getting there in the first place!
