A keenly contested match played in the usual excellent spirits saw Morton just edge out MDAFS in with 2 balls to spare to win by 3 wickets chasing 96.
Batting first, MDAFS were pegged back in the first half by tight bowling by Morton losing JNB and Anand early for 0 and 1. Dave Clifford hit 25 (retired) to steady the ship supported by Adi 8 and Sutha ( a brisk 11). 30 for 3 at 10 overs was turned into 96-7 off 20 with 23 from Sherri and a quick 12 from Chris Banks, 2 from Don, and not outs 1 and 0 from Dan and Romil at the very end plus 12 extras. 2 wickets for Morton's Vigneshwaran and Bell and 1 for Yates and Veera.
MDAFS started well in defence of our total with Romil picking up 2 wickets (Vinia 0 and Balakumar 1) in his two overs. Banks claims a double wicket maiden in his second over, JNB is swinging it around, and the game is evenly poised with Morton at 34-4 at 10 overs. The eleventh over disappears for 13 runs though and a fifty partnership between Frank Bell (19) and Senthil Nathan (25 retired) swings things back in Mortons favour. However with a wicket for Sherri and some tight bowling from Dave and Adi, the game had turned back to us with 25 needed from 18 balls. But some determined hitting from Vigneshwaran (26 not) in the gloom saw Morton needing just 4 runs off the last over. Despite a wicket first ball by Belly, a near miss off the second resulted in a scampered bye which brought Vigneshwaran back on strike to smash Morton to victory.
