The 3's were comprehensively beaten by a very strong Carlton team in both the batting and bowling department.
Having won the toss and elected to bat on what was a great batting pitch we were soon in trouble when dazza was caught on 8 and i was bowled on 1. Reyaz then hit a quickfire 14 before he was bowled when looking well set leaving us 32-3. This left Pav and debutant Garry Tetley at the crease who set about steadying the ship. Both were going along nicely with the score increasing to 90-3. Sensing we had seized back the initiative their skipper bought on 2 spinners which swung the game back in their favour. Pav (12) being bowled and then Garry (32) following shortly after leaving us 91-5. Despite a good little partnership between Vimal (18) and Chris (10) wickets continued to fall with the impressive opener Metcalfe returning to account for the wickets of of Vimal and Amir. We were finally bowled out for 137 with SuBo (2) falling LBW leaving Dave Clifford stranded on 5 not out. This was a disappointing batting performance on what was undoubtedly a track for batting.
With this score looking well below par we needed to bowl well. Unfortunately we did not get off to the best start through a combination of good batting and not putting the ball in the right places. However Amir did in general bowl a very good spell with some excellent inswing that has both opening batters in trouble and did account for one opener Rae (15) leaving them 47-1. However this bought Burns to the crease and both himself and opener Barrett took our bowlers apart with only Garry Tetley causing them any trouble. They quickly raced to our total off 18.3 overs despite Burns departing on 58 when caught by Clifford off the bowling of Romil.
Despite this being a disappointing result i believe some of the Carlton players would not have looked out of place in our first team. For the first time this season i can safely say we were beaten by the better team.
