Up at New Williamfield, the 3rds lost to League leaders Stirling County 3rds by 6 wickets.
Having been put into bat, the 3rds made 211 off 43.1 overs. Reyaz made a good 54, Phil Yelland 29, Dazza 25, Adi Choudrey 24, Lindsey Towns 22, Chris West 17, John Jenner 11, Dan Frear 7, Subash and Amir 1 apiece with Paul 0 not out.
The home side made the runs for 4 wickets with 5.2 overs to spare. It could have been very different if an nearly LBW call against their top scorer had gone in our favour.
Subash took 2 for 23 off 6; Paul 1 for 35 off 9; Adi 1 for 19 off five. Other bowlers used were John Jenner 5 overs for 24; Dan Frear 4 overs for 34; Reyaz 4 overs for 24, Lindsey 3 overs for 18; Amir 2 overs for 13 and Dazza 1.4 overs for 7. There were two good catches for Subash and a smart stumping by Chris.
On the day we were probably 40-50 runs short on what was a decent batting track

At Roseburn yesterday the 2s took on Drumond Trinity.
Unfortunately the result was a loss by 5 wickets.
Murrayfield 196 ao (Banks 51, Lacey 46, Singh 20*) Drummond 198 - 5 (Sorrel 2-20)
Having won the toss and decided to bat first we made a steady start despite the early loss of Simpson to a very generous umpiring decision. Contributions by Donaldson (16), Sutha (15) & Sorrell (18) along with the two scores by Banks and Lacey provided the foundations of of the innings and a late flurish by Singh (20*) we reached 196. Unfortunately we were 30 - 40 runnings to short as we failed to accelerate in the middle overs against the slower bowlers.
In response we kept them quite early doors restricting them to 30 of the first 15 overs. Unfortunately we were unable to take enough wickets and Drummond were able to reach the target with 5 overs to spare with some powerful batting from their captain to see them home. Unfortunetly 6 dropped/missed catches and possible stumping did not help in the field along with Sorrell's hamstring preveting him to bowl at full tilt and Rajnish having back problems.
Another loss which if we can find the killer instinct in the field could so easily been a victory.

At Leith Links:
Murrayfield DAFS 1st XI 286 for 7 (50 overs) Leith FAB 1st XI 143 all out (33.1 overs)
9 out of 9 for the 1s after a fine all round performance at the Links, with 7 of the 11 Muffers on show making the Sunday papers for runs scored or wickets taken. Maggy won the toss and batted on a lively track located perilously close to the allotments...
Another 50 stand between JP and Luke at the top of the order ended when JP played on to Lawson for 25, then Luke was caught on the square leg boundary for a well made 35. Decently but not spectacularly placed at 99 for 2 at drinks, Regan was bowled for 1 aiming a swing at Patel before Maggy and Sam decided it was time to get brutal.
Sam earned Melvyn's Boycott-esque approval from the sidelines with a classical square driven four early in his innings ("that's proper batteeeeeeng, that eeeees") before deciding to go aerial, and with some serious power and timing, scoring 7 sixes in his 78 and causing many a trip into the allotments for ball retrieval. Maggy too was in fine nick with 68, and some top quality thumping from Asif (35) saw us to 286 for 7, with 160 runs coming from the last 17 overs as Leith's lack of a fifth front line bowler was harshly exposed. Rahul Patel (2-20) was the outstanding Leith bowler by a distance with a great spell of off spin bowling.
A superb tea later, MUFS took the field with no shortage of food or fire in their bellies. Melv and Hubbs in particular hit the ground running, with two superb catches by Paul and one set of rattled timbers giving Mr Clench figures of 6-3-4-3 in a tremendous first spell. WIth JP unusually going wicketless, it was the returning Raja Sampath who ripped through the middle order with 3-34 before some ropey shots to even ropier bowling saw your correspondent finish with distinctly flattering figures of 3-28 before Melv came back to finish matters off by bowling Lawson to end up with 4 for 12 off 8.1 excellent overs.
All the while, Will Nettleton stood calmly at one end giving some fearful tap to our bowlers as wickets tumbled around him, ending up 71 not out (3 sixes, 8 fours). But the result was never really in doubt after Melv's early breakthroughs, or in all honesty after Sam's onslaught with the bat.
Great win ahead of the big one against Musselburgh next Saturday. Musselburgh's defeat to Marchmont yesterday leaves both our nearest challengers with two defeats (to us and to each other), and Matt Loeffen's unbeaten century for Marchmont leaves Maggy with a bit of work to do to overhaul him at the top of the league top scorers list. I suspect he might just be up for the challenge.

At Leith Links: MUFS took the field with no shortage of food or fire in their bellies. Tom Well, we thought it was fire in our bellies until shortly after the match finished. After Regan, Mangesh, myself and at least one of Leith's bowlers ended up spewing their stomach contents over various public spaces around Edinburgh, we realised that it was more likely to have been Salmonella. Ah well, at least a bout of violent food poisoning makes for a cheap night out!
