Result from Roseburn:
Edinburgh CC 151 for 2 (Kashif Hussain 86*) MDCC 139 for 6 (Luke Hayes 60, Asif Mohammed 30, Ahmed 3-9
Edinburgh CC win by 12 runs.
Great effort from Asif and Luke at the top of the order put us ahead of the rate on 73 for 0 after 9 overs and looking good. But Edinburgh's intelligent use of the slower bowlers eventually dragged things back their way despite an outstanding innings from Luka to follow an excellent display deputising for Hubbs behind the timbers.
Realistically though we lost the game in the field, with a succession of dropped catches (me very much included) and shoddy boundary fielding, added to 15 or so runs in wides, resulting in us havng to chase probably 20 runs more than we should have. Sam and Bharat were excellent with the ball but not supported by their fielders.
No disgrace though in losing to a strong Edinburgh side who must be clear favourites to retain the title they won against us in the Newfield gloom late last summer.
For us, we still have the Activcity 20/20 (formerly Cow Corner Trophy, of which we were the first, second and only winners) coming up, with the first game scheduled at Drummond Trinity on Wednesday 16 June. We're also still in the Terry Newcombe Trophy following our walkover win last week against Botanics. Plus there's the Small Clubs Cup, which continues this Sunday at Marchmont (players urgently needed in case you hadn't read elsewhere). So plenty to play for before we have to adopt the football manager cliche of "concentrating on the league".
Cheers all for a sterling effort last night - it's clear enough where we need to improve if we're going to challenge for 20 over trophies again this year, but yesterday showed we most certainly have the talent.
Tom
