The 3rds recorded an epic win over Carlton 3s who in their previous two games had scored over 200 runs in each innings. Fielding first, we produced an excellent performance to bowl the visitors out on the Roseburn artificial for 93 - pick of the bowlers was Daniel Frear with 5 for 12 in an excellent spell of controlled off spin bowling. Paul Leonard took two wickets and along with Subash with one wicket were responsible for an excellent tight opening spell. Darryn Kidd also picked up a wicket. There was one run out in an excellent fieldling display that saw catches for Vimal, Phil Y and two stumpings for Chris West.
Our innings got off to an explosive start as Darryn smacked 27 very quickly including two huge sixes but after he went for 27 things were still going well until Phil Hawkins departed for a dozen or so. Vimal scored a breezy 14 (?) but he was quickly followed by Graham Watson and Kamal. Still with twenty odd needed it still seemed straightforward. Chris West was bowled by one that kept very low for 15 and Daniel (1) and Subash(0) quickly followed. However with Paul 0 not out Phil Y finished the match with a four (13 not out) to collect a well deserved 20 points.

1s beat RH Corstorphine by 151 runs but that doesn't quite tell the full story - at a largely self-inflicted 39 for 4 we were in severe danger of dropping our first points of 2010, but Mangesh (31) and Hubbs (23) got us back on track to reach drinks at a healthier-looking 94 for 4 on a Roseburn pitch slowed up by rain at the back end of the week.
When both batsmen departed in quick succession we were back in bother at 105 for 6, but an impressively calm partnership from Sutha (43) and Asif (25), followed by some late order tap from Raj, all capped off with excellent running between the wickets, saw us to a healthy 199 for 8. One short of a sixth bonus point of course - but that would only have been an issue in a losing cause, and a tremendous opening spell from JP (10-1-15-4) ensured that was never going to be the case, taking the first four Corstorphine wickets with the score on just 12. Fellow opener Melvyn (10-3-13-2) picked up a couple of scalps of his own, as reward for an excellent spell, and when Lady Pickles came to the crease her new side was dead and buried at 27 for 6. Determined batting from Charl meant she remained unbeaten at the end, thus retaining some bragging rights to add to her excellent catch to dismiss Shielsy earlier. But Raj (5-0-14-3) and Tom (4-2-5-1) finished things off and the visitors had slumped to 48 all out.
There you are, you see - a whole match report, and I haven't taunted Charl once for her comment earlier on in this thread. So I'll just sign off by saying congratulations WINNERS!!!
Cheers Tom
