While the rest of you have no doubt put cricket out of your minds for a while, except perhaps Luke who must be enjoying the "Don't Care we Won The Ashes" One Day International Series, your intrepid youth development team have continued our missionary work breaking new ground in delivering a taster session to the 30th Inverleith (Davidsons Mains) Scout troop on Monday.
With 20 lads of p6 to s3 age in attendance, the session began with a warm-up including 2 laps of a football pitch (cue IS heavy breathing) (IM managed just the 1 lap ) and a fielding relay race. A match of the MUFS invented "Crazy Cricket" then followed and plenty of hitting talent (all hooked to leg) could be observed!
With the light fading we retired to the scout hall for a Q&A session- "Which Ia(i)n is the oldest" being one interesting question.... answers on a postcard.....We concluded the night with a bowling technique session. All the scouts received a Durham Championship Winners poster and all seemed to go home very happy with their nights entertainment.
Mike (troop leader) has written to me to say, "Just a wee note to thank you for your time last night, I have had good feedback from some of the parents already! The Cub leaders now want to put something on their program next Spring and the rest of the Inverleith Scouts movement, of which we are a part, are also interested in such sessions".
And so the gospel spreads....
Thanks to Ian Shiels for accompanying me on this session - the feedback shows the interest there is out there for cricket but we need more volunteers to help us with the Youth Development. As detailed elsewhere on this board a number of coaching courses are coming up so please let Ian or me know if you are interested and we will forward you the details.
