Right then - huge game on Saturday for the 1s against Carlton, and here's why: www.eastleague.org.uk/index.php?option=com_joomleague&func=showRanking&p=19Carlton have run into form in recent weeks with a last-gasp win over leaders Fauldhouse, followed by an unceremonious thumping of Heriots. (And for those who've been following a separate thread, yes I did mean to type Heriots there and not something else.) For our part, we've said enough times that we need to translate our 20 over form into the longer game. No arguments about it - it has to happen now. Everyone in the team listed below is well capable of turning a game in our favour with bat, ball or gloves. Don't look around for someone else to step up - take responsibility and be the hero yourself with positive, determined, fearless cricket. The spirit of Freddie, in fact. (Sorry Luke...) Team is: 1. Tom Wheeler 2. Ian Shiels 3. Paul Hubbard 4. Raja Sampath 5. Mangesh Akerkar 6. Melvyn Clench 7. Regan Black 8. Sunny Dahiya 9. Luke Hayes 10. Adam Scott 11. Raj Devanagere Please be at Roseburn by 12pm for set-up and practice. Also please come to net practice and fielding work from 6.30pm on Thursday if you possibly can - some dedicated and focussed practice as a team can make a huge difference come Saturday. I'm up for this one, in case you can't tell. Let's do it boys. And best of luck, as ever, to all four teams. Cheers Tom

Hello Hello,
Team 2 plays Dunnikier at Dunnikier in what is an away game for us. This is an important fixture for both teams as they are currently located in the 8th position and we are in the 7th. a win is thus the only situation that we want from this saturday...
the team to play this saturday in no particular order
Anand Venkatesh Rajnish Singh Sivaram Sivasamy Alan Patterson Adeel Raza Sutha Rangaswamy Lindsay Towns M Rafic Settu Phil Hawkins Phil Rogers Ankeet Vora
We meet at the Murrayfield hotel at 11.15 pm. Drive to Dunnikier should take us about 45 minutes or so.
the last time we played them, they used their slow bowlers from the very first over on a wicket which was very soft. our batsmen practically gave the wickets away and we were bowled out for a low total. i hope that all players keep and use 'that' thing on their shoulders.
all the best for all the teams. and see you soon.

I'm conscious I've been guilty of only putting up the bare facts on this message board in recent weeks, generally because the cricket has been too disappointing to report in any detail.
So in that spirit:
Carlton 2s 126 all out (Barrett 37; Scott 3-26, Wheeler 3-27) MDCC 1s 88 all out (Hayes 23, Shiels 18*; Pietsch 3-24)
Carlton win by 38 runs.

Unfortunately the result for the 3s on saturday ended in a very disappointing defeat.
Holy Cross 2s 168/8 (45 overs) MUFS 3s 161ao (43.5 overs)
Holy Cross won by 7 runs.
Batting
Beretta 4 Kidd 14 Shah 26 Banks 16 Lacey 46 Donaldson 0 Watson 0 Yerneni 14 Sunki 4 Yelland 0 Leonard 6*
Bowling
Sunki 9-2-18-1 Yelland 9-1-31-1 Yerneni 7-0-21-1 Leonard 9-3-24-1 Banks 7-0-44-1 Kidd 4-0-22-1
Run Outs 2(lacey, sunki) Catches (watson)
Having won the toss and elected to field the bowlers all bowled very well keeping the scoring down to less than 3 an over. Whilst wickets were not tumbling the slow scoring rate meant that they were not building a huge total to chase. In fact despite a 6 over spell where HX skipper was going for his shots we controlled the oppostion well. So HX scored 168 off their 45 overs which on reflection was 20/25 runs too many based on our bowling performance and their batting ability but left a required rate of 3.5 runs/over which was more than achievable by our batting line up. Our only belemish in the field were the number of extras as we gave them 28 wides or no balls which is another 4.4 overs and 28 extra runs. Compare that to HX's which was only 16.
So after tea we set about the run chase. It started in good fashion with Kidd playing some cracking cricket shots (yes that is correct - cricket shots). Unfortunately he gifted his wicket by trying maybe one cricket shot to many. Enter Shah for his debut in 3s and soon went about dispatching the bowling around the ground. We had safely reach the 54 before Bonfield entered HX's bowling attack and removed Beratta first bowl. In a 6 over spell he managed to take our score from 54 for 1 to 85 for 6 including a hat-trick with his last 3 balls before he departed the game early. This left me with the more than capable tail to try and get the remaining 85 runs for victory. Unfortunately we lost Sunki only five runs later and we were 90 for 7. Having been joined by Yerneni I went about chasing down the runs against the very ordinary bowling attack in the absense of Bonfield with the exception of Lohan who bowled a very consistant line and length. Unfortunately I misjudged Lohan's second last bowl of his entitlement and was LBW for 46 leaving the remaining 2 wickets to get the required 27 runs. Despite Yelland falling without addition to the score a great effort by Yerneni and Leonard to achieve the required runs failed just 8 runs short of victory with 7 balls remaining.
Ultimately we were undone by a the normal HX 2s side with the exception of the guest appearance of one very good bowler who accounted for 5 of our 7 batsmen. We knew of his ability and unfortunately did not deal with it.
A great effort by all with bat and bowl to get us so close and the immense fighting spirit to win the game regardless.
Cheers,
Andrew

Venturing into Fife for the 1st time this season, with 2 trips still to come, the 4s made their way to St Andrews to face Largo. They also faced the Cupar traffic and the parallel universe that meant that the first car to leave got there last and Rob and Chris R managing to miss the 45 minute queue and get there 20 minutes ahead of the rest. Thanks must go to Lea for answering an 11 call-up from the vets and surely being the only woman to be able to get ready in 5 minutes. Still the sun was out and another lost toss meant we were put into bad on a grassy looking Astro-wicket, if you know what I mean. Charl and Neil Cameron, renamed Sorenstam and Stadler for the day, made steady progress against tight bowling and a slow pitch. The first wicket was to fall in the 20th as Under 17 Scottish international Briany Gillin, who was about to depart to Holland with Lea, bowled Charlotte for 16 with the score on 74. Neil perished the following over with the score not having moved on for a form finding 37, to a good catch by Gillin, off the skippers bowling. That brought Irfan and Chris Richardson to the crease as Largo sensed blood. However in a good demonstration of clean hitting the partnership was only broken off the final ball of the innings as Irfan was bowled. However he’d already reached his 50 and taken the score to 175, which meant the first 100 partnership of the season for the 4s. Chris had also batted well and made 41 not out for his highest score of the season. Tea was taken and with Sky Sports news regaling tales of Newcastle’s pre-season thrashing, there was some good Geordie bashing, especially when El Sec arrived bang on time to polish off some scones. It was also good to note that the only disturbance in the first innings was the occasional seagull squawk and ping of ball on golf club. Five tight opening overs from Neil Cameron went unrewarded but only yielded 6 runs, and although Broon was having one of his wide days the score was kept down to 22 off 9 with pressure already firmly built on the openers. However their innings was in tatters after the next 6 balls with Dave Clifford removing Dakin for 6 and Sayer for 2. Stu Pringle bowled a maiden with his first over for Mufs and then Dave removed Barker without scoring and Largo were 25/3. Dave was certainly exploiting some interesting bounce when McFarlane Jnr (4) was removed and took another 2 wickets in his 5th over to remove McFarlane Snr (6) and Jess (0). At this point Largo had faced 5 Clifford overs and their score was 47/6 and Dave’s figures 6/16 and the game was already practically in the bag. Irfan was to remove the chance of a ten-for bowling Eglington but Dave was not to be kept out of the action running out Mr Gillin. That saw Tim Mizon brought into the action for a first league bowl and Stu brought back from the far end, but Zasieck was betting very well on his way to an unbeaten 47. The score had moved onto 92 before Dave was brought back to take the 9th wicket and his 7th to finish up with 7/21 off 7. However Stuart was not to be kept out of the action and deservedly took his first league wicket bowling Miss Gillin to complete a 74 run Mufs win. It has to be said this was the most pleasant league game of the season played so far and nice to see Largo playing it as it should be. Good luck to them with their latest crop of kids, now the first lot are terrorising division 7.
