Hi all
Bit short of time so will add some inspirational words (ahem) when I get back to Edinburgh, but in the meantime, here's the 1s team to play Edinburgh Accies at Roseburn on Saturday, meet 12pm for 1pm start please.
For a change, in something like a batting order (although of course subject to change):
1. Ian Shiels 2. Paul Hubbard (wk) 3. Luke Hayes 4. Mangesh Akerkar 5. Jean-Pierre Cruz Rocha 6. Regan Black 7. Raja Sampath 8. Sunny Dahiya 9. Tom Wheeler (c) 10. Raj Devanagere 11. Melvyn Clench
We beat them at Newfield and can beat them at Roseburn too. Go out, relax, express yourselves and enjoy your cricket.
Best of luck to all four teams.
Cheers Tom

Hello Hello,
on an Ashes evening, when the first test is nicely poised, heres me posting the Team 2 to play Stenhousemuir, at their grounds.
After the disappointment last weekend, all i would like to say is lets not give up two things, our wickets while batting and secondly our enthusiasm while bowling/fielding. even if we are defending 100 odd, we all know that we are definately capable of winning. just need to maintain our focus and energy levels right through. as Andy mentioned last week, its not over till the last ball has been bowled or the last runs have been scored.
the team for this week in (returning back to my traditional method of) alphabetical sorting (- somethings got to be traditional on an Ashes opening day!!)
Adam S Ankeet V Chris W Danny A Lindsay T Phil H Rafic S Rajnish S Siva S Jigar Sutha R
Adam you can reach the ground directly. Lindsay could you please coordinate with Chris W. you may directly reach the ground. The rest we shall meet at Murrayfield Hotel at 11.30 sharp. its a 45 minutes drive to the ground. The postcode for the ground is FK5 4QJ
All the best to everyone...
may the Poms win

This weekend the 4s take on Morton at the Meadows. Morton have won their last 5 games and are just behind us in the table but no reason for us not to end their streak and extend our own.
For anyone unsure of where it is then try EH9 1JU in googlemaps or similar. Only the 24 bus goes directly past so the best bet is to walk from Tolcross (buses 10, 11, 15 and 16 from Princes Street) or walk down from Laurison place (buses 23, 27, 35 and 45). Parking is limited and only the captain is allowed to park next to the changing huts. The streets are metered parking but mostly this is free on weekends but check first. The game will be on a grass wicket.
If you need to withdraw please call me so I can try and arrange a replacement. All available club members are playing this week so there are no reserves in waiting.
Please arrive at the Meadows for 12:45.
Team (in approximate Grrrrr !!! Im getting angry factor)
Neil Cameron Chris Brown Kris Parker Iain Martin Gijs Katgert Don Wilkie Deep Singh Irfan Mahmud Drew Barker Lea Tsui Gurjeet Singh
Good Luck.

MDCC 1s 97 all out - Edinburgh Accies 99 for 2. The least said the better I think - although will put more details up when I get time.
Elsewhere, a good win for 3s over Largo but defeats for 2s and 4s - the latter by just 2 runs in the final over.

as Team 2 would have seen yesterday, a disappointing performance by the batsmen.
Having lost the toss, the bowlers did a good job to restrict Stenhousemuir to 149/10 in 48.2 overs, with wickets shared by all the bowlers. good fielding also with (i think) just one dropped catch. (although the reduction in the intensity in the middle overs is something that we as a team need to get over with, however it was still a good performance to restrict them to 149 given the way the pitch was not doing anything and the way their number 2 and 3 batsmen added 55 in 13 overs)
however the major letdown was the batting. we all know that. i dont need to point that out to anyone...
all the batsmen (and i am confident in saying that all 11 in the team can bat) need to keep just one thing in mind. make the most of this wicket. bat as if there is no tomorrow. keep the ball down and place them into the gaps. rotate the strike, we dont necessarily need boundaries all the time. its simple cricket. keeping the runs ticking will automatically putt he pressure onto the opposition and they are bound to make errors.
again i dont know why i am saying this, we are all cricketers good enough to know this...
having said this, upcoming weeks are fresh days, and we need to stay focused on the task ahead. play each game one at a time, as if everything depended on it, win them all, the rest will take care of itself...

I am glad to report it was in the end a comfortable win for 3s on Saturday. I am not so sure I could have said that whilst walking into bat in the 7th over with the score 26 for 3. Having lost Russell, Charlotte and Darryn early it was up to the middle and lower order to build a score. First Chris Donaldson and myself put on 41 runs for the 4th wicket then once Chris was out with the score on 65 I was joined by Anand. Slowly we built a 103 run partnership before both myself & Anand followed in quick succession. Valueable runs from the lower order in partucilar Adeel & Brad took the score to 237 with last wicket falling in last over of innnings.
In response it was wickets all round in the field despite a few of the Largo batsman going for their shots they were always offering chances which we took most of them on offer. In particular a great juggling catch by Chris D at short cover.
Here is the result for the 3s:
Mufs 3s won by 85 runs.
Mufs 3s 237 ao (44.1 overs) Largo 2s 152 ao (36.3 overs)
Batting
Russell 0 Kidd 16 Bascombe 2 Donldson 15 Lacey 57 Venkatesh 58 Yerneni 6 Raza 33 Mowat 15 Sunki 3 Clifford 1*
Bowling

The 4s went back to the Meadows to face Morton this time and as with last week it was nice warm sunshine. With the skipper losing another toss, Morton decided to have a bat and with a few regular 4s players moving upwards there were a couple of debuts. Most notably, in what must be a MDCC nationality first, Gijs Katgert aka Dutch boy made a first weekend start. And as was the case with the previous few weeks there were immediate and frequent breakthroughs from the opening bowling partnership of Boonie and Broonie. Neil Cameron took the first of his 4-25 in the 3rd over and followed it up with 2 wickets in the 5th. In between that the skipper took a wicket, with all of the first 3 dismissals being given out LBW. That meant that Morton were 19/4 and facing an uphill struggle. Boonie took his 4th wicket in the 9th over with the score on 38 and then Broonie (2-24) followed up with one in the next over and Morton were 40/6. Neil bowled through and couldn’t quite find another wicket to complete his ‘Michelle’ and Parhal steadied the ship with 24. Gijs took a first club wicket with the 4th lbw of the innings but the score moved onto 92 before the 8th wicket fell to Ricky Martin when he dismissed Parhal. He then got another scalp, and a sharp catch by KP off Deep closed the inning in the 30th over with Morton reaching 106. Tea was taken and it must be said that the Greggs sausage rolls and doughnuts went down very well but if you think the neds at Roseburn are bad, try the meadows on a Sunny day complete with wandering students, daydreaming book readers and Pikeys with annoying dogs. Neil and Irfan began the reply in steady style and had almost seen off Vas, who has ripped through several teams in the past few weeks, until Neil was caught in his final over, departing for 16, with the score on 33 in the 15th. Kris Parker provided some acceleration with a quick 13 but Montgomery (4-22) was bowling very tight from the Marchmont end and accounted for Irfan for 13. Raminder Singh, a last minute call up, went without scoring and KP was out to the Kentuckian Teegarden. Mufs then became bogged down and when the Don (3) departed to a stunning catch from Belton, Deep (1) went LBW, and drew (0) the game looked up with 9 overs left and still 39 needed. Gijs and Lea added 10 up to the 35th over but with pressure building a risky, but well gambled, 2nd wasn’t quite completed and Lea went for 1. That brought the skipper to the wicket and some sharp running brought 11 from the next 2 overs but Gijs smacked one straight to Bell at mid-off and went for a sprightly 9. IJM was last out of the hutch with 18 needed off 23. Start the car time as David Lloyd would say !! Good running and a 4 smacked to long-on by Broon started to get Morton thinking a bit and with the field retreating there were singles available to many areas. Coming down to the last 6 balls, 5 runs were needed and with a bye off the 1st ball and a single for Broon off the next and it was 3 from 4. And that was as close as it got as Ricky had the top of his middle stump clipped and Morton won by 2 runs. The skipper at the other end unbeaten on 9, slumped to his haunches and suddenly realised how Brett Lee felt in the Ashes ’05 Edgbaston test. To be honest though Morton deserved their win and Mufs were left to reflect on letting them get 66 runs from their last 4 wickets. Thanks to the Scoobies for a great game with loads of banter, and beers and sandwiches in Berties.
