Hi all
The second half of the season begins with a trip to Arboretum to face our old sparring partners Holy Cross. Meet 12.15pm for 1pm start please. Here's hoping for an enjoyable game, free from stump-thieving neds, rugby league fans and other such distractions...
Holy Cross riding high in the league, but we've already beaten the league leaders this season and no reason why we can't show that same level of performance at Arboretum and come away with the same result.
Alors, dans l'ordre non-particulaire:
1. Tom Wheeler 2. Ian Shiels 3. Paul Hubbard 4. Melvyn Clench 5. Jean-Pierre Cruz Rocha 6. Mangesh Akerkar 7. Sunny Dahiya 8. Regan Black 9. Phil Rogers 10. Chris West 11. Raj Devanagere
Bonne chance a toutes les equipes!
A bientot Tom

I'm sure Mr Wilkie could find an alternative choice for you, Prime Minister.
A google-ing of Charlotte 'Rocky' Bascombe (without the 'Rocky') leads one to this Cricinfo entry... (2008) "Charlotte Bascombe is a student and attached to the Murrayfield DAFS Club in Edinburgh, heading for a legal career. She is the team's first-choice wicketkeeper and a top-order batsman. She finds the game a thrill and is quite clearly the squad's fashion icon, always looking immaculate in anything she wears. She takes an extra suitcase of clothes on tours so she can have three dress changes in the day! She is in the squad for the ICC World Cup Qualifiers Cricinfo Staff February 2008 "
Having more than one club nickname is of course an immense honour...

From Arboretum:
Murrayfield DAFS 227-4 (50 overs) (M. Agerkar 57, R. Black 52*, J. Cruz Rocha 49*, P. Hubbard 43).
Holy Cross 228-6 (49.0 overs) C. Ellis 87, D. Russell 54, C. Smith 47) R. Devangere 3-19
The 1s first posting of a 200+ total came on an excellent track and outfield at Arboretum, with Paul and Mangesh getting us to drinks on a solid footing, then JP and Regan rescuing us from a mini-crisis after three quick wickets and putting on an unbroken century partnership with sensible shot selection and running between the wickets. 227 was a competitive but far from daunting total in the conditions, and Charlie batted with notable fluency and typically sound technique in putting on another century partnership with Calum Smith after Melv had removed Keith Fraser in the first over with a smart caught and bowled.
Raj D did everything he could to get us back into the game with three excellent and hostile spells, at the end of which the home side needed 36 from 4 overs and we were marginal favourites. But aggressive hitting from Dougie Russell and birthday boy Simon Pickering turned things back in Cross's favour, and even after Melv had him Simon caught behind with a run a ball still required, Bainbridge hit his first ball for four through cover and HX were as good as home.
Lots of positives to take from a spirited performance against a strong side. With that level of performance, and perhaps a bit more of an instinct to hammer home the advantage when things are in our favour, we will win plenty of our remaining eight games. With Carlton pulling off an unlikely last ball victory at Fauldhouse yesterday, that is exactly what we will need to do if we want to be playing Division 1 cricket next year. We should be back to full strength next Saturday against Accies, who destroyed bottom club Heriots yesterday, and we need everyone to be up for the challenge we face. Based on much of what I saw against Cross, I'm confident that that's the case.
Thanks to the HX boys for an excellent game and tremendous hospitality, culminating in a fab barbecue and being ushered out of the door at 1am by a long-suffering barman who wanted to go to his bed. I decided to call it a night at that point - God knows what happened to the rest of the contingent...
Cheers also to the significant and vocal travelling support who came from Roseburn and elsewhere to watch the closing stages. Sorry we couldn't quite do it, but as I said before, plenty of good signs to take into the rest of the season. As we're all aware, there's not a side in this league we can't beat. Let's keep that thought in mind as we go into next Saturday's game.
Tom

What a game? We won off the last ball by 2 runs. The game was an excellent contest and could of gone either way. Starting off slowly with the loss of both Pav and Darryn it was up to the rest of us to build the score. Everyone got in and contributed with the highlight being Dale's maiden 50 with only 4 fours. An example of placement and running. 231 was about par.
They started off at a pace and were well above the run rate despite the loss of an early wicket. With fielders dropping one by one to different injuries we kept to the task of chipping away and getting wickets whilst Carlton kept up with the run rate. With 7 overs to go cartlon needed 40 with 5 wickets remaining. A couple of well taken run outs and two other wickets saw us just needing one wicket with 23 needed at pretty much a run a ball. A six and four off the 43rd over tipped it towards Carlton but great bowling from Vamshi in 44th over which just gave them 2 runs meant it was 6 from last over.
A missed run out and then a dropped catch in the deep meant it came down to the the last ball with 3 needed. Anand managed to hold on to the catch offered and we won by 2 runs. Great bowling by Vamshi, Adeel and Darryn with David and Norman bowling well when Carlton were batting very well. A great example of its not over until its is over. Great effort by all played in a great spirit.
The details are as follows:
MUFS 231/8 of 45 overs Carlton 229 ao of 45 overs.
Victory by 2 runs.
Mufs Batting:
C Donaldson 0 D Kidd 14 A Lacey 36 C Banks 15 D Simpson 50 A Venkatesh 21 N Baikie 30 A Raza 12 D Clifford 11* V Sunki 19*
Bowling:
Sunki 9-1-25-1 Leonard 3-0-27-0 Baikie 7-0-41-1 Clifford 7-0-35-0 Raza 9-1-32-0 Banks 3-016-1 Kidd 7-0-39-4
Cheers,
An exhausted and drained 3s captain.

After the dark and damp of last week the 4s played their 3rd home game in a row in bright and warm sunshine. Losing yet another toss the skipper was delighted though to hear that Leith fancied a bat and it was the new ball pairing pairing of Paterson and Brown that started to attack. And the 4s made their now customary start with Broon taking wickets in his 1st, 2nd and 4th overs to leave Leith on 20/3. All 3 were clean bowled taking the off, middle and then the leg stump out of the ground. At the other end Alan just tightened the screw bowling ball after ball that was just too good and finished his first 6 overs unrewarded but having conceded only 14 runs. However it was some very frustrating batting that ticked the score onto 60 before Gurjeet removed Rees lbw. Brad then ‘bullied’ out Watt with some short pitched stuff and he eventually edged to Charl behind the stumps. Simon Jameson at the other end though was moving along nicely but finally put one straight down Vimal’s throat off Brad and his innings was over for 28. Excellent overs from Gurjeet, Ricky, Brad went unrewarded but ate up plenty of overs, until Yorke Junior fell to Iain for 8 and Yorke Snr to Gurjeet. Iain then polished off the tail to finish with 3-10 and Leith getting to 105 all out off 34 overs. Tea was polished off in good mood and openers Chris Richardson and Charlotte set about the task. Some loose bowling was punished and some looser bowling contributed towards 33 wides. The opening pair fell, Richie for 15 and Pickles for 8, but Subhash, sometimes too slowly, and Vimal nicely ticketed the runs off. Vimal (16) then fell to Fisher and Drew (1) missed a straight one in the same over but the winning post was already in sight. Subhash finally walked his way to the other end to complete the victory and a personal 27. All in all it was a very accomplished, and patient, win after a couple of defeats on the bounce. Fielding was excellent though and again put pressure on the opposition. That leaves us on over 70% from 5 wins and 4 loses. That record is helped greatly helped by good points even in defeat, and our games left will certainly have a bearing on the promotion spots, with matches against table toppers Dunfermline and Peebles as well as most of the teams around us starting with Morton next week.
