The 3s and 4s will follow but if anyone has not yet registered their availability with the selection committee then please do so ASAP. For those that do not know then the skippers are Tom Wheeler (1s), Ankeet Vora (2s), Andy Lacey (3s) and myself, Chris Brown (4s).
Everyone who played last weekend's friendlies was asked about availability, but there will be others who have not been contacted since. As a general rule if you are not playing the previous weekend then it is YOUR responsibility to register your availability. Captains have enough to do midweek without having to chase players so please be considerate on this matter.
Anyone who hasn’t done so for this weekend, please contact me and preferably via phone / text on 07808776157 or cpb_100@hotmail.com. Negative responses will be greatly appreciated as I’ll stop us phoning around unnecessarily.
Thanks
CB

I see that the teams for Saturday are beginning to be published. Herewith a gentle reminder that everyone should have paid their subs by now.
The AGM motion to allow payment by instalments was while indoor nets were in operation to help spread the load. That was four months ago which is plenty of time for all ongoing members to have paid by now.
The Captains and Committee have better things to do than chase you - both for subs and match day fees. Please pay both promptly when whoever is collecting cash has his vouchers out.

MDCC 4th XI begin their 2009 campaign in Division 8 with an away match against Drummond Trinity 2s. Match is at Inverleith Park, directions to which can be found on their website at drummondtrinitycc.hitscricket.com/location/default.aspx or at postcode EH3 5NY. Changing rooms are available and tea will be provided between innings. The game is on an artificial wicket so NO Spikes please. With Peanut hugging (Rugby League) on at Murrayfield there may be traffic problems so if you can make your own way there please do so. Please arrive at IVP in sufficient time to be changed and ready for 1pm, so we can get warmed up etc for 1:30pm start. Otherwise we will leave from the Murrayfield Hotel car park at 12:45. Can you please let me know how you are getting there so we have enough cars for those going from the MH. Team (in no particular order) Chris Brown (c) Irfan Mahmud (w) Darryn Kidd Owen Kelly Russell Beretta (now in 3rd XI) Gurjeet Singh Lea Tsui Rob Fotheringham Don Wilkie Sadly ESCA regulations mean that we are not permitted to play Anand Venkatesh or Vamshi Sunki this weekend. Apologies to them for being messed about. This means that we are currently short of 3 players. If you know anyone who has been to nets this season or has played for MDCC in the last few years please find out if they are available to play and contact me. I don't care what time on 07808776157. To make the captains life easier please have your £6 (£3 for Gurjeet and Lea) match fee ready in change so its one less thing to worry about. Those still yet to pay subs please read the treasurers comments above and bring your money along. You will ALL also be asked at some point to score or umpire please be familiar with the following guide from the ESCA website. www.eastleague.org.uk/index2.php?option=com_docman&task=doc_view&gid=34&Itemid=56 . Not all of its contents are relevant for our level but the basics are required.

Maybe a good kick up the old Harris early season is not a bad idea. Well done to Cross.... and also hard luck - they were beaten by 10 wkts in the (delayed Presidents Trophy Final today by Watsons. A depleted 4s lost heavily - all out for 73 chasing Drummond-Trinity 2s 217-8. To cap off a fine Saturday (not) driving 500 miles in total there and back to see Stoke lose 0-1 wasn't much of a larff either.... But well done 3s. And well done Dazza... all that winter/spring practice paying off! ....note website may take a while to be updated as Mr Back of Mr Belly is giving him plenty of gip!

Drummond Trinity 2 v MDCC 4 - lost by 139 runsAfter the trials and tribulations of selection, eligibility, de-selection, begging and bribing with the offer of beer, 9 muffers finally took to the field at Inverleith Park to face Dummond Trinity 2s. Losing the toss inevitably meant MDCC 4s were sent into the field shorthanded with the hope that Adeel would finish his school game in double quick time and Graham Watson’s work detention would finish sooner rather than later. The moving of the astro-wicket at IVP meant the hill came into play and coming in down the slope proved difficult for Broon sending the first ball high and wide over the batsman. Harmy eat your heart out. Finding the wicket slipping on the delivery stride was also causing problems but so was the odd delivery passing the outside of offstump, both from Broon and Gurjeet, operating from the bowling green end. However after a chance was put down off Cyclops’ bowling the openers had moved onto 41 without loss from the first 10. Gurjeet finished his allowed 6-over spell and it was a change that bore fruit as the Dominator took a wicket in his first over with Webster skying one to Adeel at mid-on. Young Raza had arrived in the 11th over, which meant a wait until the 23rd over before he could bowl. In that time the big hitting Pollitt had moved the score onto 119, helped by the steady knock of Hewitt, who would go on to get 68 including 40 in singles. Using the bowling restrictions wisely Adeel bowled 2 overs of spin and was then replaced by Piggott, allowing him to miss only 2 overs before being allowed back on. AP did remove Pollitt by bowling him behind his legs for 43, meaning the score was 154-2 from 29. Adeel returned to good affect to take 4 wickets to finish with 4-32, including 2 in 2, from his 7 overs. Kris Parker has also wheeled away from the other end to take the wicket of Baig, stumped by the quick work of Irfan. However despite the late rattle of wickets the early mid-innings runs carried Drummond Trinity to 216-7 off their allotted 40. Too many leg side balls meant setting a field, with reduced numbers, was difficult and but for KP’s and Adeel’s sharp ground work its have been a higher total. The less said about the reply the better but a good foundation was set by Irfan and Rob opening taking up 14 overs before Rob fell LBW to Morrow, which was the first of his 3 wickets. Irfan followed for 17 a couple of overs later. Owen scored a fluent 15 before being one of 7 wickets taken through catches compared to only one for DT !!! Accurate bowling tightened the screw and loose shots gave Pollitt 4 wickets, including 2 c&b. Andy provided a moment of relief with a wonderfully struck 4 but Adeel was last man out for 15 from 35 overs, with the score having limped to only 77. Graham Watson eventually had arrived but too late to be allowed to bat and so the 9 wicket to fall were all DT needed to complete a 139 run victory. Mufs took away 6 points and some sun / windburn and also a harsh lesson in sensible batting. Thanks must be given though to AP and KP for stepping in very late in the day and both were rewarded with wickets. Must bat better !!! 1st Innings of : Drummond Trinity 2 - 216 for 7I Webster B Hewitt S Pollitt P Maddukuri K Mullins J Grime A Baig J Morrow I MacIntyre C Vemury Mr Absent
