Hi
This weekend sees a busy weekend of MDCC cricket, weather permitting of course. Aside from the Cow Corner 20/20 finals day on the Sunday there will be 3 teams in action on Saturday.
What is sure to be an ultra-competitive games takes place on the grass between the 1st and 2nd XIs and on the arti there will be a friendly game against a Peebles XI.
Anyone who played last weekend should already have given their availability to the captains on the day, but can anyone else who has not specificed their interest in playing please let me know by email to cpb_100@hotmail.com or text to 07808776157. Last weekends games were over-subscribed so please note that this will merely confirm your interest. The nets will be set up for anyone who can only come down for part of the day.
Games will commence around 1pm.
Thanks
CB

Hello again
The much-awaited line-ups for Saturday's inter-club challenge on the Roseburn grass pitch, and the 3rd/4th XI against Peebles on the artificial, can now be revealed (exclusively on the MDCC message board...)
Andy Lacey and yours truly will be sharing captaining duties for one team and Anks will be skippering the other. We've tried to get a reasonable spread of batting and bowling across the two sides - we'll soon find out whether or not we've succeeded on that one.
Have been racking my tiny brain for snazzy IPL-style team names but haven't had much success - please feel free to suggest better (but clean) alternatives!
Lacey's Legends Paul Hubbard (wk) Siva Sivasamy Raghavendra Kamath Chris Banks Andy Lacey (co-captain) Ashish Talreja Phil Hawkins Tom Wheeler (co-captain) Raja Sampath Rafic Settu Phil Rogers Joe Gordon
Anks's Army
Luke Hayes Chris West (wk) Danny Abraham Ian Shiels Sutha Rangaswamy Irfan Mahmud Heath Batwell Rajashekhar Davanagere Paul Leonard Jean-Pierre Cruz Rocha Rajnish Singh Ankeet Vora (c)
3rd/4th XI v Peebles
Chris Donaldson Charlotte Bascombe (wk) Owen Kelly Norm Balkie Don Wilkie Lea Tsui Chris Brown (c) Stuart Coull Gurjeet Singh Russell Barreta Graham Watson
Both games begin at 1pm and we're planning on around 45 overs per side. Nets will be set up all day so if you're not playing and would like a bit of practice then please come along. Any problems please give me a shout.
Cheers Tom

Somewhat surprisingly, glorious sunshine greeting the muffers and muffettes for the pre-season friendly against a Peebles XI. Finally after 7 aborted attempts to skipper a Mufs XI, Brownio finally managed to get as far as the toss and won, well County skipper lost it after wrongly calling heads. Sportingly Brownio elected to field as the opposition were a couple short, thanks to the Saturday traffic. With Baikie making his comeback from the Stadium end, and Coull opening from the River end, their openers were not given an easy time of it. Stuart made a breakthrough with his 4th ball cleaning up Ainslie. However Pace joined the senior Cadd1ck and gradually they found their feet on the astro and found the rock-solid outfield to their liking. Norm completed 5 unrewarded overs, but emerged unscathed after slipping on the edge of the strip and almost inserting the cherry up an unfortunate place. Debutant Gurjeet Singh took over and immediately troubled the now established pair and in his 2nd over dismissed Cadthingy for 25. Runs however came slightly too easy but with the score on 76 Gurjeet got rid of Pace for 21. Wilkie replaced Kelly and despite a costly 1st over, removed Osborne for 26 through a sharp stumping from Pickles and next ball had Swann caught by Broon coming round from backward short leg. The hat-trick ball was kept out but the score had moved onto 121/5. Murray was still scoring at the other end and put on 35 with Hillier before he went LBW to Russell Beretta. The skipper had plugged away without reward but removed the off-stump of Junior Pace and then following over had Junior Cadd1ck plumb in front lbw. With some extra pace back on the ball from the opening bowlers, Norm wrapped up the innings, dismissing Murray for an excellent 49 including 7 fours , and with the first ball of the 39th over knocked over the pegs of Eggington. That meant Peebles had posted a good 192 all out, with good MDCC figures coming from Baikie 7.1-2-22, Brown 6-2-29, Singh 8-2-38 and Wilkie 3-2-29. Certainly the difficult ground conditions were partly responsible but with only one chance put down it was generally good batting and running that contributed to the high total. A pleasant tea in the sunshine was well earned and some sore knees nursed before Graham Watson and Stuart Coull went out to face the music. Very tight opening bowling restricted Mufs to 26 off the first 10 overs. Daddy got 13, Graham a patient 3, Charl 10 and Pav 11, but all got out before they could get into 2nd gear. The variable lengths bowled seemed to exploit some interesting bounce and that’ll be one to keep for later. Graham particularly got a trundler and the game was probably up in terms of a run chance well before Russell and The Don fell. Norm Baikie was just winding up at the other end though, and as Lea, Owen and Gurjeet fell only the skippa was left in the hutch. After Cyclops kept out the last 3 balls of the over Norm took aim off with 18 off 5 balls to take his score to 48 but turned down a last-ball of the over single. Fortunately a single to fine leg off the first ball of the over, allowed Norm to bring up his 50 in style with a 4 and he ended the 40-overs nearly removing a fielder with another boundary into the Murrayfield hedge. A great comeback knock of 56 for Norm, but an 61 run defeat. Top bowling figures were Burns with 4-25. However a good spirited game, a good run out for some rusty arms and legs and some good sun. The 4s play Peebles twice at home during the season so hopefully on those occasions we can exploit the vagaries of the astro-wicket a bit better.
