Happy 2009 season one and all!
For those unfamiliar with the MDAFS message board, this section is where team selections will be posted for the season's league, cup and friendly fixtures. As many will remember from the past couple of seasons, this is also where we post the news when matches get cancelled due to rain...but hopefully there won't be quite so much of that this season.
Rest assured however that if you're not sitting by a PC all day then you don't need to worry - your captain will generally be in touch by text to confirm availability for fixtures and to let you know if matches are called off.
We kick off the season with an Easter Sunday friendly at Westquarter. It's a 1pm start, and there'll be lifts available there and back from Murrayfield. But read on...
Being the sort of club that we are (friendly, cooperative, one-for-all-and-all-for-one etc etc), we sometimes need to call on club members to muck in to help with bits of work on the square, the nets or the armoury. As you may know, there's a lot of work been going on at the armoury so we can use it to store all our exciting new ground equipment (fine turf cutter, heavy roller and so on). All of which will give you all the best possible wicket to play on at Roseburn, so it's to all our benefit in the end.
Anyway... - we need to shift some debris from the armoury at Roseburn so we can get the new equipment in there. If a bunch of us work together it shouldn't take too long, and will be a decent warm-up for a game on what looks like being a chilly old day. So, if you're playing on Sunday, we'd be very very grateful if you could meet us at Roseburn armoury by 10.30am to help us move the rubble into a skip so all the new fancy schmancy equipment can be moved in.
The following hardy souls have so far said they're up for playing on Sunday:
Mangesh
Chris Banks
Jean-Pierre
Joe
Adam S (Ads - I realise you'll be going direct so we can probably let you off the armoury work...)
Melv
Charlotte
Mr Belly
Me
Anyone else who fancies a game can contact me by text on 0787 667 3320 or by email to imsorryihavent@cluemail.com. Ideally we'll take a squad of 13 or so and rotate fielders so we can take turns to retreat to the pavilion, sit next to a radiator to warm up a bit.
If you'd like to play but can't make it for some or all of the armoury works, please get in touch with your best excuse and I'll see how charitable I'm feeling! And if you can't play but are willing and able to help with clearing the rubble, then please also get in touch and you will earn the lifelong respect and adulation of the executive committee. And we'll probably buy you a pint as well.
Cheers for now
Tom W
