Brief highlights from the meeting between Edinburgh Parks Cricket Clubs and Edinburgh Leisure which I attended on Monday night.
First of all from the tone of conversations and their degree of future planning the future appeared slightly more positive than I have heard for a number of years with possible new artificial wickets being planned for 2008 and 2009. They have also begun a feedback procedure with questionnaires to be distributed before, during and after each season.
As far as we are concerned there was good news in that for the first time in a number of years maintenance will be conducted on cricket squares before the bowling greens.
Currently the maintenance teams are spiking the squares and applying a heavier dose of grass seed than in previous years. 1 tonne of top dressing per square is being applied. The top dressing is Surrey loam. Fertiliser with a 6% Iron content is also being applied to help grass growth. All these works will be completed by the first week in October. The saddles at Roseburn will also be looked at.
In 2007 cricket pitches will be ready earlier from 14 April and be extended to 8 September allowing us a 2nd weekend in September to hold a home friendly/ host a touring team at Roseburn.
Elsewhere:
Inverleith: Proposed Skate Park - work unlikely to begin on time due to number of objections - cricket unaffected 2007
Meggetland: Handover delayed as EL unhappy with works
Meadows: New square fencing off on trial during winter. Cafe up and running for cricket teas.
Inch Pk: Flood prevention works not started again due to number of objections. 2007 likely to be ok for cricket
NEW pitches: Locations being investigated.
