After a week of torrential rain and general all round rubbish cricketing conditions, Mother nature decided to let us have a game of cricket on Sunday against West Lothian at Boghall. The sun was shining and although we had some sun showers, we managed to get a full 80 overs of cricket in. After losing the toss (yours truely continues his run of form) West Lothian skipper put MUFs into Bat. Openers I Shiels and P Hawkins facing up to Kal and Thomson. Both openers bowling well, Shiels and Hawkins kept the run rate steady at 3 an over for the first 7 before Shiels played over the top of an inswinger, bowled by Kal. Bringing A Venkatesh to the crease.
Venkatesh and Hawkins playing a steady innings to set the tone steadily trucking along at 4.5 an over until in the 17th, a hesitant change of mind half way through a shot was the undoing of Hawkins. A Akram in next, and continued to pile on runs taking us past drinks at 106 for 2. A succesful outing for Akram hitting 64 (from two spells at the crease) and a solid 33 from Venkatesh allowing some freedom for the lower batters to 'have a crack'. Between the 21st and 31st overs, MUFs scored at 8 an over with a few lower scores and regular wickets falling, however all batters contributing runs, ending our innings at 233 for 9 off our allocated 40.
P Hawkins 23
I Shiels 6
A Venkatesh 33
A Akram 64 N.O
M Gaddam 3
S Fergusson 41
B Nussum 3
V Sensyed 12
C Brown 1
D Frear 9
M Sunkari 2 N.O
After a great tea and a bit of a rest, V Sensyed and M Sunkari were set the task of taking on the West Lothian openers. Between the pair of them, both bowled exceptionally tight opening spells restricting the batting side to 2.7 an over for the first 12, and Sunkari claiming the scalp of the oppostion skipper (hit wicket). M Gaddam and C Brown bowled follow up spells well with Gaddam taking a wicket and Brown unlucky not have 2 due to some lapses in the field. At this stage the result was clear, with B Nussum, D Frear, I Shiels, A Venkatesh and A Akram all getting overs (Nussum 2 wickets, Shiels 3, Venkatesh 1) there were not enough runs on the board for West Lothian to compete, and with a a fine last over from Sunkari, closing off the innings West Lothian scoring 139 for 9 off their 40. I Shiels being the pick of the bowlers below:
M Sunkari 8 - 3 - 20 - 2
V Sensyed 6 - 1 - 17 - 0
M Gaddam 5 - 1 - 9 - 1
C Brown 5 - 0 - 26 - 0
B Nussum 6 - 0 - 23 - 1
D Frear 4 - 0 - 25 - 0
I Shiels 3 - 0 - 8 - 3
A Venkatesh 1 - 1 - 0 - 1
A Akram 2 - 1 - 3 - 0
A great game, played in great spirit - thanks to the Wet Lothian gang!
Cheers,
Sam
