After winning 3 in a row the 4s this week take on Dunfermline 3s in a home game at Roseburn on the Astro wicket - so no spikes please. I’m away so Charlotte will be my more than capable deputy.
Can everyone be at Roseburn and ready for 12.45 and assist in everything that needs doing like putting out the table and chairs, and the scoreboard.
This season’s wins have been earned by good sensible cricket in the field and with the bat so lets see that continue and keep up the pressure on the opposition by concentrating and supporting each other.
Team (in order cake eating preference – Highest first)
Neil Yelland (miles out in front) Charlotte Baccombe (c+w) Rob Fotheringham Gurjeet Singh Neil Cameron Don Wilkie Alan Paterson Paul Leonard Graham Watson Irfan Mahmud Chris Richardson
Up the Mufs.

Many congrats to 2s and 4s on their excellent wins.
Could so easily have been a glorious finish for the Ones as well as Maggy and the tail took us to within five runs of an unlikely victory after a now-familiar middle order collapse. Largo won the toss and elected to bat, despite the potential for the recent rain to have livened up the traditionally excellent East Drive pitch. But the pitch played superbly from ball one, and it was a combination of excellent bowling from the top end from the big three quicks (Raj D 10-4-11-3, Raj S 8-2-21-3, Melv 10-4-19-2) that helped us to restrict the hosts to 160, at least 50 below par given the small ground and trustworthy track.
It could have been better still, with Largo reduced to 99 for 7 in th 33rd over, but obdurate batting from Rintoul (32) and the veteran Mowat (14), followed by some big hitting at the end, meant that the final wicket didn't fall until the last ball of the scheduled 50 overs. Sensible batting and an object lesson to several of us in how to make use of the full allocation of overs.
After J-P had played on to ex-Yorkshire and Essex opening bowler Thornicroft for 2, Hubbs and Luke saw of the rest of his opening spell and took us to 54 for 1 - once again, a more than handy position when chasing, from which some sensible and patient batting would have taken us to a straightforward victory. But then, not for the first time this season, on came the change bowlers and on came the capitulation - Luke and Paul out to successive balls, and seven wickets fell for just 33 runs to turn the match on its head. The less said about some of the shot selection the better I think.
Through all this Maggy played with his usual calm assurance and, supported by the skipper (18) and Melv (6 not out), took us to within one hit of an unlikely victory. But after reaching a brilliant 50 with a six over midwicket and keeping the strike with a sharp single of the last ball of the over, a clip to midwicket was well caught to give young Brent Bentley his sixth wicket (8.1-2-30-6, after being 0 for 19 off his first two overs) and inflict a heartbreaking defeat on MDCC.
Ultimately, then, a deserved vistory for Largo and for the most part a fun game of cricket played in decent spirit - with the exception of some unacceptable abuse from one of the host players that has no place on any cricket field. Apology ultimately accepted - just.
Even if we had sneaked home it would only have papered over a number of cracks, particularly in the batting but also in the field on occasions (although our outbreak of butterfingers from the Glens game wasn't repeated - to Melv's palpable relief). More food for thought for the skipper ahead of next week's home game against Fauldhouse and another opportunity to break our duck at home. But in order to do that we'll need to show the clarity of purpose, unity of spirit and basic common sense that was again lacking on Saturday.
As captain, I have spent most of the past 24 hours or so thinking about what I could have done differently yesterday. I trust the rest of the team is doing the same. There isn't a single team in this league that we aren't capable of beating, and 2 wins out of 6 is no reflection of our ability but more of a reflection of our mindset. We can - and will - sort that out. Next Saturday would seem like an ideal time to start.
Tom
Largo 159 all out (50 overs - Stinson 35, Rintoul 32, Robinson 23; Devanagere 3-11, Sampath 3-21, Clench 2-19)
Murrayfield DAFS 155 all out (46.1 overs - Akerkar 53, Hubbard 27, Hayes 21; Bentley 6-30, Thornicroft 2-10)

Well said Captain Tom.
We have the potential and the ability but, currently, not the will or application.
Too many people are not concentrating in the field for the full 50 overs which leads to dropped catches and needlessly given away runs. Staying alert, walking in with the bowler and expecting EVERY BALL to come to you should be the name of the game.
Too many people are not selling their wicket hard enough. Despite being second top score on Saturday I include myself in this. Easy in hindsight to say, but with Luke having fallen off the last ball of the previous over I should have made sure I knuckled down for an over or two. The worst thing we can do after losing one wicket is to lose another - the opposition's tails go up, they are energised and gain the momentum. But the consistent failure of our middle order is a great cause for concern. In theory we bat all the way to 11 (and Tom and Melvyn certainly showed that on Saturday), but we have to start fulfilling our potential throughout the innings.
Weather permitting we should be looking to get as much good practice as we can - tonight, Thursday and Saturday morning. But as Tom said in a previous message, it takes more than two to put the nets etc up, get ready for the game and put it all away afterwards.
